ENFASYS General Assembly Recap – Berlin, Germany, October 7th-9th, 2024

The ENFASYS General Assembly took place from October 7th to 9th, 2024, at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Hosted in the historic Senate Hall, the event brought together project partners to review progress, discuss key findings, and outline strategies for the future of the ENFASYS project.

Day 1 Highlights: The assembly began with a warm welcome and introductory presentations by the host institution, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (HUB), and EVILVO, setting the stage for productive discussions.
The first technical session, led by Pascal Grohmann (HUB), focused on policy designs across the project case studies.
The team introduced the initial comparative analysis to assess the policy design spaces, providing a valuable foundation for further discussions.
In the afternoon, Niall Hammond (TEAGASC) presented the initial results from the consumer surveys, offering insights into public perception and behavior toward sustainable food systems. This was followed by Ioanna Kalyva (GAIA), who shared outcomes from workshops related to business models for sustainable agriculture, stimulating a lively discussion on innovative practices in the field.

Day 2 Highlights: On the second day, the assembly turned its attention to farmer surveys with a presentation by Niall Hammond (TEAGASC). The focus then shifted to the Theory of Change (ToC) analysis, presented by Marija Roglic (MBS), which introduced a social-constructivist perspective and included a cross-case analysis exercise to further examine selected cases.
Giovanna Ottaviani (NIBIO) and Matteo Masotti (UNIBO) then provided updates on the progress of WP2, including the methodological approach for system dynamics and experiment designs, laying out a clear path for future research within the project.

Day 3 Highlights: The third day opened with discussions led by Davide Guariento (ABE) on boosting communication strategies and finalizing practice abstracts and scientific papers. These contributions are critical to disseminating the project’s findings and expanding its impact on stakeholders.
The assembly concluded with a public KOSMOS lecture delivered by Philippe Baret, focusing on the agroecological transition in food systems and the necessary shifts in policy and practice. This session provided valuable context on how agroecology can serve as a guiding framework for more sustainable agricultural systems.

As ENFASYS continues to explore pathways to climate-smart agriculture, these three days of insightful presentations and discussions have further solidified the project’s commitment to driving sustainable agricultural practices across Europe.
